Economic DelvelopementThe New England colonies economy was, like most budding colonies, based off of trade and the many forms of agriculture that took place there. The colonies relied on mainly the trade of furs, and sea products for economic gain from trade with England and the other colonies. The New England colonies traded many types of prized furs, from beavers, wolves, bears, raccoon and hunted those animals to near extinction in the settled areas. The colonies used its farms to grow mainly corn, pumpkins, rye, various types of squash and beans. Being colonies mainly located on the east coast close to bays and the ocean, a main supplement of economy for the colonies was product from the sea. Some examples of these products are cod, mackerel, herring, halibut, hake, bass and sturgeon. Whale oil was also a valuable resource, because it could be used in lamps.
