ClimateThe climate of New England varies greatly across its 500 mile span, from northern Maine to Connecticut: interior Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire and western Massachusetts have a humid continental climate. In this region the winters are long, cold and heavy snow is common. This region receives on average 60 120 inches of snow annually. The summers are moderately warm, and receive rainfall throughout. In the central eastern regions the temperatures are warmer and the winters are shorter, and there is less snowfall (35-45 inches annually, with exceptions for higher elevations). Thunderstorms are common throughout the summer. In the southern regions snowfall averages around 23 inches annually and temperatures can reach 100 degrees Fahrenheit in summer.
